Blur Will Be Back To Studio?

January 8th, 2008

There are some inspiring new for the fans of “Blur”, who are know as the fathers of Britpop. The group is coming back to
studio, it being known that the Blur’s ex-guitarist Graham Coxon will join vocalist and keyboardist Damon Albarn, drummer
Dave Rowntree and bassist Alex James in their effort. According to British sources, the band is to start working on their
new album in November, 2007. “They’ve all had lots on, with solo projects, cartoon bands, political campaigns and farming.
But by the end of summer, their plates will be clear. They’ll go into the studio together in November”, the source says.

The whole thing about “Blur” reunion is there for about several years. The band, who had hits in the1990s with “Parklife”
and “Song 2”, have never officially split but haven’t made an album since 2003’s “Think Tank”. Graham Coxon was exiled from
the band in 2002 and was purely skeptical about a possibility to work together with his former teammates ever again.
However, he changed his mind a bit last year, saying that such a scenario is not totally impossible.

In an interview, the band’s drummer Dave Rowntree admitted they are heading back to the studio to see if they can reclaim
their musical magic. “We will spend one week recording and see what happens. We’re dipping our toes in the water. We have
not made any decision but we’ll see how we feel”, he said. Rowntree is too cautious in his optimism though, as this strategy
has proved successful in the past. “That tends to be the way albums start. That’s how the last one started. We get together
and either we say ‘it’s not the right time’ or we say ‘brilliant.’ We don’t want to prejudge the issue right now”, Roundtree
added.

Minnie Driver Releases Second Album

January 4th, 2008

Minnie Driver’s “Everything I’ve Got In My Pocket” debut did not appear to be anywhere near commercial success, but the
actress dared to give her musical talents an another attempt. On July, 10 she will release her second album entitled
“Seastories”.

Though best known as an actress, Driver defied critics’ expectations and established herself as a serious artist and
musician. Her new CD goes farther in exploring new musical territory, from the rich sonic textures of “Beloved” to the
bluesy soul of “Cold Dark River” to the seductive minor key groove of “Mockingbird” to the poetic chamber folk of “Lakewater
Hair.”

The twelve new songs were written by Driver herself. She also played some guitar. The album features performances from Ryan
Adams and his backing band The Cardinals, indie queen Liz Phair, keyboardist Rami Jaffe (The Wallflowers/Foo Fighters),
guitarist Marc Doc Dauer (Pete Yorn) and Zack Ray (Gnarls Barkley). The whole effort was mixed by recent Grammy winner Jim
Scott, who worked with “Dixie Chicks”. Driver’s vivid lyrics, soaring melodies and spirited performances on this thoroughly
pleasing collection of intelligent pop are never overwhelmed, though.

“There was a whole flavor to the New York sessions that was darker and more insular, while the L.A. vibe was open, sunnier
and more hopeful,” says Driver, who now lives in Los Angeles.

Driver began her career as a musician in the early 1990s with a band called “Puff, Rocks And Brown”, who never released an
album, though. She then earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in “Good Will Hunting” and only then returned to
play not on-screen, but to play a guitar.

The 37 year old star will tour the U.S. this summer.

The “Seastories” track list:
“Stars & Satellites”
“Sorry Baby”
“Beloved”
“Cold Dark River”
“Mockingbird”
“How To Be Good”
“King Without A Queen”
“Mary”
“Lakewater Hair”
“London Skies”
“Coming Back To Life”
“Love Is Love”

Paris Hilton Turns Herself In

December 31st, 2007

The heiress to the Hilton Empire has checked into a LA County jail to begin serving her 45-day sentence for violating her
probation in a DUI driving case. She was booked on Sunday into the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, five
miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.
She faces good chances of serving only 22 days of the 45-day sentence, though. As sheriff’s spokesman said, a state law
requires shorter sentences for good behavior. The only question is if Paris is capable of good behavior.
The spokesman added that there’s no chance Hilton may be released early due to overcrowding, as actress Michelle Rodriguez
was in May 2006. Rodriguez served less than one day of a 60-day sentence at the same county jail. “The situation in the jail
will not determine release”, the spokesman underlined. “She has been given a full sentence. She will do her full sentence”.
During her last pre-imprisonment interview on the MTV Movie Awards red carpet Paris said: “I am trying to be strong right
now. I’m ready to face my sentence. Even though this is a really hard time, I have my family, my friends and my fans to
support me, and that’s really helpful. I’m really scared but I’m ready to do this. And I hope that I’m an example to other
young people”.
Hilton will be kept in the “special needs” unit of the jail, luckily separate from most of its 2,200 inmates. The unit
contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates.
Still, no special arrangements have been made to accommodate Hilton.
She will take her meals in her cell and will be allowed outside for an hour each day to shower, watch TV in the day room,
participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone. No cell phones are permitted in the jail. “I did have a choice
to go to a pay jail,” Hilton said on Sunday. “I declined because I feel like the media portrays me in a way that I’m not and
that’s why I wanted to go to county, to show that I can do it and I’m going to be treated like everyone else. I’m going to
do the time, I’m going to do it the right way”.

Britney Talks Online, Cuts People Off

December 27th, 2007

Britney Spears has published an emotional letter on her Web site. This is the first time Britney really talked to the
public since her divorce with Kevin Federline and all the rehab adventures. In the letter, Spears confesses: “I was so lost”.
The letter is Britney’s own frank account of her troubled past. She rather calmly explains what led her to rehab, how she
feels about what happened around her. “Recently, I was sent to a very humbling place called rehab”, writes Spears.
“I truly hit rock bottom. Till this day I don’t think that it was alcohol or depression. I was like a bad kid running
around with ADD. I had a manager from a long time ago come in and try to direct me and my life after I got my divorce. I was
so overwhelmed I think that I was in a little shock too. I didn’t know who to go to. I realized how much energy and love I
had put into my past relationship when it was gone because I genuinely did not know what to do with myself, and it made me
so sad. I confess, I was so lost.”
Spears underlined that she didn’t blame anyone for her troubles.  Although she is not hesitant to say, that she sees “the
world with a completely different set of eyes now. Being in that vulnerable state and taken to dinners and parties with
friends and finding out later you paid for everything was a huge learning lesson for me. I think the whole problem was
letting too many people into my life. You never know another person’s intentions or what another person wants. I feel I was
too open and looking for answers when I had it all to begin with. I have had to cut so many people out of my life”.
The letter finishes with Spears another confession. “It is just so weird because everyone has their own perception of me
and how they think I really am. It is so weird how stories are told. There is your side, my side, and the truth. Somebody
has to figure it out. I guess we will never really understand or figure out life completely. That’s God’s job. I can’t wait
to meet him … or her.”

Lindsay Lohan Arrested for DUI, Cocaine Found

December 23rd, 2007

On Saturday police arrived to an accident scene involving a car driven by Lindsay Lohan. The driver was reportedly speeding and driving under the influence and the Mercedes got slightly injured, when it struck the curb. The police came after a 911 call made by a passer-by. The were two unidentified passengers in Lohan’s 2005 Mercedes SL-65 convertible, when the accident occurred at about 5:30 AM on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. Lohan was taken to a local hospital due to some minor injuries of “her upper chest area” received in the accident, and was arrested right there.

Luckily, nobody was severely hurt and no other car suffered. The case seemed to be rather clear with Lohan having, of course, to appear in court to stand the DUI charges.

However, the surprises followed almost immediately. The police reported that in Lohan’s vehicle they found a substance that they believe to be… cocaine.  The amount of the substance was identifies as “usable”. The authorities did not indicate where exactly the drug was found, but they confirmed that it “was not on her person”.

Funnily enough. Just last week Lohan said in an interview: “The drama and the tabloids will die down.  I’m just a girl but I’m growing up. I’m learning. I’m playing different characters and hopefully, once I’m more settled in life, then you probably won’t see me out so much”.

Obviously, Lohan — known for spending time in rehabs and for attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for more than a year — put the evil eye upon her own self. The incident under discussion is the third of the type (a car wreck) for Lohan in the past two and a half years.
The singer’s representatives still remain silent about the situation.

Linkin Park Top the Charts, Don’t Surpass Jay-Z

December 19th, 2007

Linkin Park’s brand new album “Minutes to Midnight” topped the charts this week, hitting the highest first-week total of
2007 with the full weight of 623,000 discs sold. Such a result is the second best for the last two years and puts them
behind only Jay-Z and his “Kingdom Come” with 680,000 copies sold last December. However, Linkin Parks’ own “Meteora”
started off in 2003 with 810,000 sales.

One would make en anormously brave understatement, should he or she say that Linkin Park met little resistance while
fighting for this victory. Linkin Park met no resistance at all, for record labels clearly preferred to delay their releases
for the following weeks to not face the Californian monster eating their sales off.

500,00 copies behind, the second place of the charts is safely occupied by the R&B star Tank whose album “Sex, Love & Pain”
sold 103,00 units. Place third belongs to Michael Buble, whose “Call Me Irresponsible” is fast sliding down by 39 per cent
if compared to previous week. This week saw 88,000 people buying  a copy of Buble’s album to get it home.

The Chicago-based rock group Wilco  is at place four, with 87,000 copies of “Sky Blue Sky” paid money for. It was the
biggest charting and sales week ever for Wilco, although almost twenty five per cent of its sales were carried out by
digital services. The top 5 this week is locked by the country performer Gretchen Wilson, who made her benefit from 73,000
discs this time. There were 16 newcomers to the chart, such as Rufus Wainwright, Pink Martini and the soundtrack to “Shrek
the Third” which features the Ramones, Led Zeppelin, Fergie and Wolfmother. The celestial company rests at a comfortable
#44.

All in all, album sales rose up 1% from last week at 8.59 million units and fell down 7% compared to the same week last
year.

Ozzy Osbourne – Sober For the First Time

December 15th, 2007

Ozzy Osbourne’s new album “Black Rain” is finally in the stores – being right on the predicted date  of May, 22. As the
facts go, it is the first Ozzy’s studio effort in six years, and as the rumors go further, it is the first one he’s made
sober. Well, according to what it sounds, the rumors might be true.

Mr. Osbourne – known also as The Bat Biter – managed to break new ground. Should he blame his sobriety or not, but his
“Black Rain” is the most focused and crafted album he has ever written.

The recipe of such a success is simplicity – Ozzy recorded the LP at home, in his own studio, along with his best friends
from his common touring band. His guitarist Zakk Wylde co-wrote eight of the 10 tracks, providing the whole set with his
trademark riffs and fire-breathing solos. All the electronic textures and manipulations were added to the album’s sound by
producer Kevin Churko. Due to his efforts, the album sounds fresh and totally contemporary without sacrifices of Osbourne’s
classic metal feel.

Still, the one to be praised for the whole set is Ozzy himself – with his again strong vocals and a remarkably clear
delivery. Hislyrics even seem to have a point, though he sings about all the same things -  war, greed, drugs, death,
religion, Earth and his love to his wife.

The supporting tour for the album starts in Moscow on May 27 and will continue up to July 6
across Europe. Then, on July 12 in Seattle Ozzy will headline the 12th Ozzfest concert tour throughout the United States.

“Korn” – Heavier Than Ever

December 11th, 2007

The eighth studio album of “Korn” is due in late July, and according to the band’s guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer’s
statement is the heaviest record the group has ever recorded.

“It’s very musical”, Munky explaines. “I would compare it to “Untouchables”. It has a lot of highs and lows throughout it,
and it’s very gothic, I think. It kind of took on this whole gothic feel, which we didn’t set out to do. When we were done
with it, we sort of just sat back, and we were all kind of laughing about it, because it has that vibe throughout. I think
our fans are going to be stunned by how heavy it is, as far as an emotional sense.

A lot of these songs are sad. But at the same time, some of the heaviest stuff we’ve ever done, musically, is on this
record. There are moments here and there that are just tough. This one song, called ‘Ever Be,’ just has this epic ending to
it — like, imagine “300” set to song. It’s crazy. Some of the stuff’s very epic like that, and then pulls way back, so the
dynamics on the record are very wide — from one extreme to the next, and all over the map”.

Unarguably, “Korn” have always been a heavy act. But in this case the overall tone of the album is especially is rife with
emotion and has a genuine sadness to it.

The final mix of the album should be ready before this week is over. The LP remains untitled yet, although the band is
toying around the idea to self-title it, as they did with their 1994 debut.

The list of the confirmed tracks:

“Evolution” Described by front man Jonathan Davis Jonathan as “addressing global climate issues. It’s not political Al Gore
shit. I’m just wondering, are my kids going to have a place to live?” “Evolution” will be the first single of the album.

“Starting Over”. A song where Jonathan Davis channels all of his feelings about the battles he’s overcome in the past few
years: alcohol addiction, drug dependency, and a near-fatal blood disease.

“Kiss”. One of Munky’s favorite tracks. It has piano in it, and there’s a very melancholy tone to it,” Shaffer describes
the song.

“My Arm Hurts”. As Munky comments “It’s a hard riff to play, and if you keep playing it for an hour, your arm hurts”.

“Hushaby”

“Ever Be”

“I Will Protect You”

Bon Jovi 2008 Tour Will Be Big

December 7th, 2007

Jon Bon Jovi has recently made an announcement in order to sooth down some of his fans, who were disappointed by “Bon Jovi”
light touring schedule for this year. The singer said that those who were, would be rewarded for their patience in 2008.
“There’s going to be a real tour, but not ’til next year”, Bon Jovi said. “They’re routing it now. I think it’s Japan and
Australia for January into mid-February, then the States. Early spring in Europe we’ll be outdoors, then outdoors in America
- the usual kind of run that we do”.

The “Bon Jovi” next album – already promoted as a country-flavored one – will be released on June, 19, and will be entitled
“Lost Highway”. Alas, the rockers will not launch the supporting tour immediately, all because of Jon Bon Jovi’s family
preparing to move from the Rumson, N.J., area to Manhattan. The vocalist just needs time to settle everybody appropriately.
“It’s part of my growth period”, Bon Jovi elaborated. “My wife and I just want to make the change. We’re not selling our
house here; we’re just moving to New York. It’s one of those kinds of things. The kids’ll go to school here. It’s a big
change”.

Despite those “big changes” Bon Jovi will not disappear totally. When “Lost Highway” is out, he plans to appear in various
TV shows: “Today” on June 19, “The View” on June 20, “Ellen” on June 21-22 and “Larry King Live”. He will also take part in
some live fests including Milwaukee’s Summerfest, the Live Earth show on July 7 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, and a
10-night stand to help open the new Prudential Center in Newark in the fall.

The exact dates for the 2008 tour are yet unknown.

Des’ree, U2 and Oasis Have Worst Pop Lyrics

December 3rd, 2007

The listener’s poll held recently by BBC 6 Music defined the world’s worst pop lyrics of all time. This was, of course,
“the worst of the best” list, for it contains such names as “Snap”. “U2”, “Oasis” or “Duran Duran”. The first place was left
for Des’ree, though, and her 1990’s hit “Life”. She ultimately won over  “Razorlight’s” “Somewhere Else” and “Snap’s”
“Rhythm Is A Dancer”, although the runner-up both collected 30 percent of the votes.

The Des’ree’s lyrics in question are: “I don’t want to see a ghost / It’s the sight that I fear most / I’d rather have a
piece of toast / Watch the evening news”.

Referring to that, the BBC 6 Music presenter Marc Riley said, “”Some of the lyrics are truly dreadful. But some of them do
look worse written down on paper. Bad lyrics can come in all forms - some acceptable, some less so. Dumb is sometimes OK,
but pious and pretentious and pompous are obviously never to be encouraged nor tolerated. For instance, in the right hands,
defiantly dumb lyrics such as Manfred Mann’s Do Wah Diddy Diddy can be more than acceptable as part of the pop idiom. But
imagine the same words streaming from the crown prince of gloom, Leonard Cohen. It would, quite rightly, be mocked and held
up for much ridicule”.

“ABC” leader Martin Fry, comfortably sitting on the fourth place, reacted by saying he had been “waiting for this kind of
accolade for years. The most memorable lyrics are often the stupidest”.

The Lyrical Worst Top 10 is as follows:

1. Des’ree - ‘Life’
“I don’t want to see a ghost/It’s the sight that I fear most/I’d rather have a piece of toast/Watch the evening news”

2. Snap - ‘Rhythm Is A Dancer’
“I’m as serious as cancer when I say rhythm is a dancer”

3. Razorlight - ‘Somewhere Else’
“And I met a girl/She asked me my name/I told her what it was”

4. ABC - ‘That Was Then But This Is Now’
“More sacrifices than an Aztec priest/Standing here straining at that leash/All fall down/Can’t complain, mustn’t
grumble/Help yourself to another piece of apple crumble!”

5. U2 - ‘Elevation’
“I’ve got no self control/Been living like a mole now/Going down, excavation/High and high in the sky/You make me feel like
I can fly/So high/Elevation”

6. Toto - ‘Africa’
“The wild dogs cry out in the night/As they grow restless longing for some solitary company/I know that I must do what’s
right/Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti”

7. Oasis - ‘Champagne Supernova’
“Slowly walking down the hall/Faster than a cannonball/Where were you when we were getting high?”

8. Duran Duran - ‘Is There Something I Should Know?’
“And fiery demons all dance when you walk through that door
Don’t say you’re easy on me you’re about as easy as a nuclear war”

9. Human League - ‘The Lebanon’
“Before he leaves the camp he stops/He scans the world outside/And where there used to be some shops/Is where the snipers
sometimes hide”

10. Black Sabbath - ‘War Pigs’
“Generals gathered in their masses/Just like witches at black masses”
